Listen to The Librarian read his short tale 'The Ghast' - an extract from his longer tale 'The Richmond Portmanteau'.
Better known for literary masterpieces like 'Great Expectations', 'A Tale of Two Cities' and many more, Dickens also wrote a number of short ghost stories. 'The SignalMan' is still considered a classic of the genre today.
M.R. James is widely regarded as the father of the modern ghost story. 'Oh, Whistle, and I'll Come to You, My Lad' is one of his best known and most loved stories.
